What is SACNAS?
From the national website, "SACNAS is an inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans, from college students to professionals, in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in STEM."
While the organization focuses on and was created for supporting Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans, SACNAS is an inclusive organization that supports all college students and professionals. All college students and professionals are welcome to join, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, race, national origin or ancestry, ethnicity, or religion.
Everyone has a role to play in our mission to diversify STEM.

Why do we need SACNAS?
SACNAS helps our country live up to its potential by working to make sure that the groups that are most underrepresented in STEM have the support they need to attain advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership.
It is projected that by 2065, Hispanics will comprise 24% of the population (source), while the Native American population is also growing and is consistently overlooked in the data. Though America's population demographics are changing, the STEM workforce demographics are not keeping pace.

Without a concerted effort to diversify the amount of students earning and using their degrees in the US, a huge amount of potential in the STEM fields will be lost. SACNAS works to support the next generation of diverse STEM talent.
